Will the MWC Consider Expansion?

February 23, 2010 1:07 am

The MWC Commissioner says they are always looking to improve the conference and that there are plans in the wings should a current member of the conference bolt to another conference.  TCU added strength to the conference right away, who else could do that?  Would the resurgence of SMU make them a candidate to increase the conference numbers to an even 10 regardless of anyone bolting?  How about Boise State?  And then again, how about adding a resurging Houston to those previous two making it an even 12?  Will that help or hurt revenues?  We are talking about some pretty big markets here.  Will Missouri State from the little Ozark mountains be too little for the Mountain West Conference some day?  Is Fresno State, not far from Mount Whitney, big enough?  If and when we join the BCS, can we grab Colorado?  Would we want to?  Would they want to?  Why wouldn't they?, think about that one for a moment.  Are UTEP, New Mexico State, or Utah State even on the radar?  And finally, if and when we do join the BCS, how much stronger will we become as a conference and how quickly?  So far 5 teams in the MWC have won National championships in either Football or Basketball: TCU, BYU, UNLV, Utah, and Wyoming.  Now take Colorado, Houston, and SMU and you would add 3 more.  UTEP would be another.  Some pretty significant history to be ignored by the BCS, don't you think?

UTEP MINERS

February 5, 2010 6:12 pm

I watched UTEP play for the first time when they played Houston, and i was pretty impressed. I am trying to watch all of the bubble teams as much as i can. So if you guys can just keep winning which you can, your last 8 games are pretty weak teams excpet two versus Tulsa and one versus UAB, so I would say you will have to go at least 6-2 and win at least one conference usa tourney game, and your dancing
